Identity of Self is a deeply personal photographic project that confronts the complexities of identity formation, particularly within the context of gender embodiment, inter-culture, and societal expectations.
In this series, Nadia Magda examines the fragmented nature of identity—how it is shaped, perceived, and how constantly evolving. The work offers an intimate portrayal of the self, reflecting on the multiple layers, from internal emotions through external expectations and societal influences to perception by others. Using a combination of portraiture and self-representation, the work emphasizes the fluid and non-linear nature of identity, often challenging conventional narratives around how we define ourselves. The deliberate use of shadow, reflection, and fragmented compositions symbolizes the disjointed, yet interconnected pieces that come together to form one’s sense of self.
Identity of Self captures the raw emotions highlighting vulnerability, resilience, and the constant negotiation between the self and the world. Through this work, Nadia hopes to open up a dialogue and to encourage viewers to reflect on self-perception and the self-image as seen through the eyes of the observer.
